Ladies Cricket

The Lord;s Taverners consider women’s cricket to have less advantages than their male counterparts. We therefore provide financial support to women’s cricket in the ACT by sponsoring ‘The Taverners’ team in the annual ACT Women’s Premier League competition. The Taverners were victorious in the final of this year’s competition held at Manuka Oval on 22nd January 2011. Three of the Taverner’s team represent the ACT in theTerritorial team – the ACT Meteors

Rebecca McRae – Team Captain wrote as follows:
“On behalf of the Lords Taveners team, I wanted to thank you for your support during the Women’s Premier League season. In the final we were lucky to get back on after the lightning delays and bowl Jetset out and win the match.
One of the major benefits of your support is making the competition accessible for regional and Sydney based players. The Taveners team had 4 players throughout the season travel from Sydney or regional NSW. A great success story for us is Emily Aberline came to play for Taveners last season for the first time and this season has cemented her position as an opening bowler and earned herself a position in the U18 ACT side that competed in the national carnival in Adelaide. While the time and financial commitment is large for these players, your financial support means that they don’t need to pay club fees on top of travelling costs. The support is very important for our local girls as it makes the standard of the competition and facilities we use higher.
Thank you again for your support and we hope that in future seasons we can continue to play under the Lords Taveners name, win some more premierships but more importantly provide a great breeding ground for talented young cricketers to develop and display their skills.”
