THE LORD’S TAVERNERS ACT BRANCH CIC AUSTRALIA / COLLIERS INTERNATIONAL CHARITY GOLF DAY 2011
On 7th March, Royal Canberra Golf Club once again opened its doors for the staging of this annual event with its unique format. On a cool but clear day marking the first day of autumn, a field of over 60 professional and amateur golfers competed in a fun day for both team and individual prizes. Supporters came largely from the Canberra corporate community but several individuals emerged from the Lords’ Taverners ACT ranks to make up a highly competitive field. The RCGC and other local club professionals joined Brendan Jones in showing their commitment to charity by throwing their support behind the Lords’ Taverners ACT.
With an opportunity to bring together benefactors and beneficiaries, attendees had a chance during lunch to listen to Simone Doherty (the Chief Executive of ‘Pegasus’ – recipients of a Taverner’s sponsored horse for disabled riders – ‘Taverner Bill’) and Mark Vergano, CEO of ACT Cricket talk about the support for their young and disadvantaged in their areas of sport, that they have received from LT.
Brendan Jones was the guest speaker on the day and provided not only an entertaing insight into the World Matchplay Champioships in which he had recently competed, but also donated a round of golf with him as a Silent auction prize. Other prizes on the day included fine wines, a cricket bat signed by the Australian Test Team and a trip for two to New Zealand for the Australia v Ireland game at the forthcoming Rugby World Cup.
Lords’ Taverners ACT regarded the event as a huge success as over $14,000 was raised for its beneficiaries and many supporters have already indicated their continued support for future events.
